Connection – a poem

When our lockdown in New Zealand started two weeks ago, I experienced a cocktail of emotions; fear, calm, sadness, love, grief, compassion, curiosity and uncertainty. My sensitivity radar was in full flow, as isolation, the shadow of connection was showing up.

However, I also experienced hope, because my sense is that what is happening right now is the Earth asking us a question. Is this the life we want for humanity? Is this the life we want for our country? Is this the life we want for ourselves? Or is it something different?

This disruption is gifting us an opportunity. It is only when giving and receiving are in balance that healing can take place. Time to stop… and listen… what is being asked of us?

CONNECTION

Earth…
Feet on green grass
at the trunk of a tree
Reaching up, reaching out
The smell of damp soil on my nostrils
Sand between my toes
Grounded

Water…
The sound of the ocean,
angry, crying, calm
Rivers and estuaries flow,
cleansing, purifying;
from where do they come?
Immersed in my feelings
Opened

Air…
Deep breaths, one, two, three
Breathing space, quiet, listen…
Trees waving in the breeze
Clouds dissolving overhead
Birds calling, crickets chirping
The wind speaks,
the winds of change
Engaged

Fire…
Sun on skin
Passion in my belly
Illuminated, energised
Warmth in my heart, glowing
The spirit of peace
Connected

What is being asked of us?
